The season that nearly didn’t happen as world events were overtaken by the arrival of the COVID-19 Global Pandemic.
A hastily reschedule calendar saw 2 races in Austria, 2 at Silverstone and a triumvirate or Italian races with the return of Imola and the debut of the Misano circuit. F1 also paid a visit to the Portugal as the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve appeared for the first time. The season concluded at Abu Dhabi but not before a double header in Bahrain, using both the regular circuit and the outer loop providing for an incredible night-time spectacle on what was effectively an oval with a couple of lumps and bumps along the way.
Ultimately the championship went the way of Mercedes-AMG F1 with Lewis Hamilton taking the drivers’ title from teammate Valtteri Bottas. Verstappen completed the championship’s podium in just 9 points behind Bottas, with a fast-charging and out-of-contract Sergio Perez in 4th.
